DETROIT, MI – Christmas trees cause an average of 240 house fires per year that result in 21 deaths and $25.2 million in property damage.
All of these fires are preventable, the Detroit Fire Department said Thursday.
City fire officials held a public safety meeting to demonstrate the importance of fire safety during the holiday season. Engine 27, Ladder 8 lit a living room set, including a Christmas tree, presents and furniture on fire to show t only takes seconds for a house to go up in flames.
